He is an executive director at the Norwegian Film Institute and head of the International Department. He has his education in film history and theory from the University in Stockholm and in film production and documentary films from the Dramatic Institute in the same city. Holst has served as cinema manager, film critic and producer of films, and has also been associate professor in film and cinema at regional university colleges in Norway.
