I wrote a story for K5 about providing a guide to exporting or having a specific program for HTML. While complaints came about bloated code and the "Smart" text features we ended up at the beginning.
While doing a random trip around the CMS/Blogging world I found this, Ekit. An OpenSource Java text editor with CSS support and built in spell checker!
It's a bit clunky* but with a cursory test it was usable in Moz, IE 5.1-Mac, and Safari. Opera and Netscape 4.7 did not work. If one dies use an unsupportedFbrowser then switching for a moment would work fine. those who wouldn't have an IE or Moz wouldn't probably wouldn't use Ekit and right it themselves. Either way those who can't would be no worse off than they are now.
The HTML or CSS might not conform but since it is Open someone could hack it into working. I don't know Java and there is little documenation, otherwise I would do it myself.
This may be totally unworkable, if it is someone suggest another solution. Another free solution Java editor, or downloadable program that we can make the HTML conform to Scoop stye perhaps? Dunnot, but that is what comments are for.
*I could not get the "Copy to Text Area" button to work. Didn't work in any so I am thinking it might be just OS X. as it has some weird way of communicating with Java or something (or
so I have read.) The View > Source is a good workaround. Also things like bullets are hard to work with, could be just OS X. Workarounds could be displayed along with it.
