SVG.org Relaunched! Announcements

SVG.org, the first community-powered website for the W3C SVG technology, has just been greatly overhauled and relaunched. What started out as a confidential affair with a Movable Type install and just a few hand-registered users, is now a completely automated powerhouse thanks to Scoop.

The website was designed for two main things. SVG.org should become the premier place to look for centralized SVG news from different horizons (product announcements, specs progress, conferences, etc.) as well as a place for the SVG community to share their experience by writing in their diaries.

The new site runs on a dual processors 2Ghz Apple XServe G5 on top of Mac OS X 10.3 Server. Most of the various blocks and boxes have already been cleaned up to output valid XHTML 1.0 Strict, and the entire website layout was done with CSS. While it will take a while to get the whole site to be fully compliant, it is slowly but surely getting there.

Very well done!  I just ran a sample of your front page (SVG.org) through Bobby (http://bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/index.jsp) and ran a sample of kuro5hin.org too.  The difference is just amazing!

SVG had a few dozen errors, but no more than 5 in any one category.  kuro5hin had hundreds of problems listed, from formats to pictures, the structure, etc.  For you to clean up the code this much is a real credit to you and your dedication.

Good job!
