Cyclismo.org Converted from Geeklog to Scoop Announcements

We have converted our site, cyclismo.org over to scoop from geeklog. It was surprisingly easy to convert over and was able to copy the stories over with no problems. There were only four issues that came up during the installation of scoop and all are relatively minor.

  1. In the file lib/Scoop/Stories/Elements.pm on line 1021. We found it useful to have the sid available for the navbar block and added this line:
    $navkeys->{'sid'} = $sid;
  2. In the file lib/Scoop/Stories/Elements.pm on line 144. We wanted the topic icons to be left justified so we had to change the align option on this line. It would have been really nice to have this as an option in the database rather than hardcoded. (Of course now the icons do not appear in internet explorer browsers. Fortunately, nobody really uses that, do they?)
  3. The perl module Date::Calc is not listed in the README file. This module is necessary and should be added to the README file.
  4. We are using FreeBSD. It would be nice to have the location of the various perl modules listed with respect to their ports. Here are all the modules that we used as ports:
    textproc/expat
    databases/p5-DBI
    databases/p5-DBD-mysql
    security/p5-Digest-MD5
    www/p5-Apache-DBI
    www/p5-Apache-Test
    devel/p5-Class-Singleton
    security/p5-Crypt-UnixCrypt
    mail/p5-Mail-Sendmail
    devel/p5-String-Random
    textproc/p5-XML-Parser
    devel/lwp
    security/p5-Crypt-CBC
    security/p5-Crypt-Blowfish
    textproc/p5-XML-RSS
    devel/p5-Time-modules
    textproc/p5-Text-Aspell
    textproc/aspell
    textproc/aspell-dict
    security/p5-Crypt-SSLeay
    www/p5-libapreq
    devel/p5-Date-Calc

To have this list available in the README file would have saved some time.

On the whole, though, it was a very easy install. More importantly formatting the site and making changes is much easier than working with geeklog. Also, the organization is intuitive, and it has been fairly straightforward finding things. Great work y'all!
